Utah 38, Utah State 21
In the renewal of the Battle of the Brothers, the Utes’ got the better of the Aggies in Logan for the first time since 2008. In his first collegiate start, Utes’ true freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson threw for 239 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
Bryson Barnes, now quarterbacking the Aggies, threw for 223 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions to lead the Aggies.
Utah 38, Utah State 21
3:31 — Utah adds to its lead with a late 18-yard field by Cole Becker. The Utes’ drive went only 33 yards on eight plays.
11:50 — Utah tight end Carson Ryan hauls in a two-yard one-handed catch on 4th down to give the Utes a two score lead.
14:43 — USU placekicker Elliott Nimrod misses another field goal try, this one from 43 yards (wide left). Nimrod has missed two field goal attempts in the game.
Utah 28, Utah State 21
0:08 — USU safety intercepts Utah quarterback Isaac Wilson and returns the ball to the Utah 27-yard line.
1:08 — A quarterback sneak by Bryson Barnes pulls Utah State within a touchdown of the Utes. The Aggies thought they scored on the previous play, on a 18-yard run by running back Rahsul Faison. USU drove 63 yards on nine plays, converting multiple fourth down tries on the drive.
4:06 — Utah adds to its lead with a 3-yard run up the gut by running back Micah Bernard. The Utes drove 70 yards on eight plays, steadily making their way through the Aggies’ defense. Utah went for and converted the two-point conversion, via a shuffle pass from Isaac Wilson.
9:25 — Utah placekicker Cole Becker gives the Utes a six point lead early in the second half with a 25-yard field goal. The Utes moved the ball early in the drive, through the air especially, but things got bogged down in the red zone.
Utah 17, Utah State 14
1:19 — Utah tight end Caleb Lohner leaps above the Aggie defense for an 11-yard touchdown reception that gives the Utes their first lead since 3-0.
2:57 — Utah defensive back Cam Calhoun picks off USU QB Bryson Barnes deep in Utah territory and returns it 34 yards to give the Utes a chance to take the lead before the end of the half.
7:09 — USU had a chance to stretch its lead to seven, but placekicker Elliott Nimrod misses badly wide right on a 42-yard field goal attempt.
10:11 — Utah quarterback Isaac Wilson finds wide receiver Money Parks wide open in the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown. The Utes dominated up front on the drive, which went 76 yards in seven plays, most of which were on the ground.
14:16 — The Aggies strike again early in the quarter. Bryson Barnes finds slot receiver Jack Hestera for a 12-yard touchdown. The Aggies drove 51 yards in only four plays, the highlight being a one-handed 35-yard reception by receiver Jalen Royals.
Utah State 7, Utah 3
0:46 — Utah State responds with a 20-yard touchdown reception by tight end Broc Lane. The Aggies drove 77 yards downs the field in four plays, including a 39-yard reception by wide receiver Otto Tia.
1:52 — Cole Becker puts the Utes on the board first with a 39 yard field goal. The Utes went only 27 yards down the field on the scoring drive, thanks to excellent field position.
9:15 — Utah defensive back Smith Snowden intercepted a pass from USU quarterback Bryson Barnes to wideout Kyrese White in the end zone, ending a promising Aggie drive.
